What "triggered" your interest in jockstraps?

I'm wondering what actually "triggered" our interest in jockstraps. For me it was the fact that, in my mid-teens, I had my first "crush" -- my high-school football coach. I found him very attractive, but it wasn't until the first time I saw him in a jockstrap that I finally understood, deep down, that my attraction to him was sexual in nature. (Interestingly, my fellow students, the guys my age, really didn't appeal to me very much. As it turns out, I've always been drawn to men older than me.) I had already been wearing jockstraps for sports before then and liked them, but that nailed it. Jockstraps suddenly took on a powerfully erotic dimension for me, and have remained that way for me ever since. I had never heard of this occurring in a parochial school, but I am not completely surprised. I was aware of something similar at a Military School I called on located in west central Illinois. Entering cadets, regardless of age, were referred to as "new boys" and were required to wear their jocks at all times. This probably wasn't that big of a deal for boys of junior high age, but must have created real discomfort issues for the few already anatomy developed upper class high school boys, some of which I suppose were directed to the school by the juvenile court system. I don't know if the "new boy" designation lasted weeks, months or a whole semester as I only had one sale to the school and as I recall it closed in the mid 70's.

Military schools and all male Catholic schools were far more common in that era, and it might make for an interesting research project to see if there were many other schools requiring jock straps be worn as underwear.

I found my dad's jockstraps in his underwear drawer in the 80s, when I was a teenager. I think he had two, both Bikes, both with cotton pouches.
