The Decline of The Jockstrap -Mutiple things I can blame it on.

Starting in Middle School jockstraps and a shower after gym class was required. We were issued a gym uniform but had to prove out own jockstrap, socks and shoes dedicated to gym class so we would not scratch the floors with worn sneakers and pebbles stuck in the treads. Yes, I will reveal my age, and this was the early 80's. Most boys wore jockey shorts and we all stripped down and strapped up since it was gym class. Jockstrap inspections were common, and we all showered in the gang shower. The gym teacher watched and if it was though you did not get wet enough or soap yourself up enough then you were sent back for a proper cleaning.

Even in HS the importance of a jockstrap was emphasized. While we were not pushed as hard to wear one the jockstrap checks were not a daily thing. I was random and just expected that you knew enough to wear one. Caught without your jock and you were out of class for the day with an F on your record. You were not only punished by sitting out but razed by everyone else.

For sports in Middle School and High School the couch would make sure you were strapped or cupped (if necessary) since they did roam the locker room.

Even in college coaches made sure we had the right equipment on. Post playing years I transferred back to a collage and some guys had a great idea of to toy with the girls pleading a sorority. Yes, it was our floor leader who was a great guy.

The female sorority pledges were to read us a bedtime story, The idea came up for all of us guys to wear paper bags on our head and have on nothing but a jockstrap. Some indicated they did not own a jockstrap. I remember the organizer commenting "how do you not own a jockstrap." I had a drawer with many clean one and enough new ones to offer anyone who wanted one. Some were takers but others did not. Let's just say it backfired and when one pledge locked the door then blocked the door, we all got judged. We got released on package size, height to weight. There were a few bigger taller and built guys who were released last. LOL. They did not fill a strap as well.

So, what happened to the decline?
1. Yes, the divorce rate increased but most of these moms were from the 50/60's and while would not touch one wanted their boys to have a supporter and be reproductive in the 20's, But then there were many who thought jockey shorts provided enough supports and then they did not have to touch that thing.
2. Gym teachers did not care since they had 10 year and just wanted to retire.
3. Dads were absent, and the right of passage did not take place.
4. The internet. 80's and 90's porn were now shared, and the masculinity of the locker room was tarnished due to general Theam of men getting it on in the locker room while strapped. Is this really so hard to believe? I think there was a scene in Porkies where a young gym teacher got tuned on by the smell of the boy's locker room.
5. If so, many guys wo are straight guys are watching internet porn why do they think a jockstrap is gay. They must be checking it out and getting a little excited buy a buff dude in a typical jockstrap like BIKE getting off with another guy. BS 10% of the population is gay. Men are beast and will stick it anywhere they can find a warm hole to get off.
6. The number of men on a football team roster is 53 so at 10% that is 5-6. Then 48 dresses so that is 4-5. Finally, 11 play each side and that is 22-23. No wonder they were compressing shorts and get dressed in towels.

I want to make sure that in no way and form am I disrespecting the homosexual community. Be partnered, get married, have kids. I am simply trying to point out how stupidly homophobic it is to think that a jockstrap is gay. Now if you were something pretty and fissionable while in the locker room. A jockstrap that looks like the ass was just cut out of a pair of briefs or sparkly then intentions could be questioned.

However, no one is fooled when you troll the locker room pretending to look in the mirror a the then of a bank of lockers as you pretend to come your hair in the mirror. Especially when it is your second or third passing.

I live in a rural area. There are few places to buy a regular jockstrap, especially one with a cup. Even in chain sporting good shops. So I get mine now from Amazon. Fifteen years ago I lucked into a discount place that had a big stock of Bike classics, and blowing them out for $2.50 each. I bought a dozen; all worn gone now. Their straps seem to fail over time where they attach to the pouch.

A Military surplus store near me used to sell classic black and white jocks for super cheap! But most of those stores closed.

A sporting goods chain near me sells classic mcdavid, but even on dicksportinggoods website they only show those ugly shock doctor ones or briefs with a built in cup. I hope they’d have more in store but it’s kinda shitty to see real men’s classic athletic supporters only available online

After my senior year, there was a big "golden handshake" that encouraged a LOT of teachers to retire. A LOT of PE teachers retired, including the man I had freshman year, and the department head. Their replacements didn't care. A friend's brother said he had to do it in junior high, but his freshman PE teacher didn't enforce anything, he said he'd always found it creepy and wouldn't put that on his own students. So 4-5 years after I graduated, a lot of boys weren't wearing jocks anymore many weren't showering.

Compression shorts got VERY popular with the athletes, and the price fell dramatically in that time, so it's not surprising those supplanted jocks for sports. Baseball and football players still wore their cups in jocks--but even that would fade over time.

We wear literal pants (board shorts - past the knee) to go to the beach in, sitting in wet pants when we get out of the water. The football players, having to keep positioning their towells over their junk in the tight pants. Guys wont join wrestling because of the singlet that must be worn in public competitions and the ridicule that it creates. They wont join swimming because of the speedo requirement, again ridicule and embarrasment. If competitions and meets were men only i bet you'd see alot more guys trying out for the sports. God forbid Karen is denied entry, she has the mayor on the phone in 10 minutes and its front page news the next day. They wear compression shorts that now go past their knees, and your wondering why they won't wear a jockstrap that not only lets them move around with much less restriction, but has a wideband strap that keeps it in place and won't let it ride up their ass like compression shorts do, and dosen't soak up their sweat, having a hot, sweaty wedgie while trying to compete in a sport. Those wet, sweaty compression shorts sure as hell don't help the chafing jock itch situation one bit either. No way I could wear them after wearing jocks for so long. If u dont wanna ask just look around the sports equipment section, there definitly there u just gotta look. They are not in the baseball section. You don't have to buy the cup and the jock, they have them seperate, both jocks with no cup pouch and the jocks with the pouch for the cup.

Good to know man! Do they only have shock doctor brand? That’s all they list online, but I would hope they’d at least carry some classic white mcdavid jocks. A smaller chain sporting goods store near me still carries mcdavid jocks and mcdavid swim jocks so I regularly pick up a pair there.
