News on the Live Chat feature...

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've been actively researching live chat options for the website. It's been a bit daunting as the ones I'm finding are either too simple or are too complicated. Some with video chat require paying a monthly fee and have the chat hosted on the providers servers which I don't want for many reasons but mostly for privacy reasons.

I am zeroing in on one but there are four different chat addon packages. The cost is from being free (and useless) to $499 with the suggestion of paying another company a monthly fee for the live video features. I'm hoping the third option will suit our needs as it's only $200 but it's not clear if it can do private video messaging.

I've got a support ticket in with them to find out what package is best. Cross you fingers it's the third (and easiest) package.

Thanks for the update John. Let’s hope option 3 works out. If not, maybe we start with option 3, and most people can zoom (30 min free) or another platform. Obviously, that would not be on the platform; but looking at the big picture - we would get the basic chat feature which we don’t have now.

Signal can handle groups and do a lot of that, but no way to brand it or integrate it that I know of. Theres a young fellow on the Fediverse that is writing a chat talker like this too, he calls it Sup. And then there’s discord. LOL.

The contest is still ongoing. We’re in the voting stage. Voting ends on February 8th and winners will be announced on February 9th.

THANKS SO VERY MUCH for ALL that you do for-us John!...all we really need is something-kinda-like the old "ALLKINK-JOCKSTRAP-LOCKER-ROOM"...of-years-ago!...nothing fancy or costly!...l belonged-to that, many years-ago and, it was great (HOT) fun being-able to view guys and their-jockstraps and their-big-jockstrap-pouch-bulges and, make plenty-of-comments-back-and-forth!...it might-be much-more-comfortable for many-of-us (who-need-to-remain-anonymous), for business-reasons, mostly!, (l personally would-not-really-want or, be comfortable-with-the "live-video-chat" or, ever-even-use-it, most-likely!...mainly, because of my "home-based-business!".....just-saying!...that`s just MY-situation tho!.....JAKE

The Chat feature had to be put on hold for a variety of reasons but mostly my health issues. It's a big job to get it set up and an expensive purchase. Also waiting to see what happens with Trump's threatened tariffs on Canada and how that's going to impact our business.

Jitsi or Element/Matrix may have something usable for you, either as a service or self-hosted but I wouldn't know about extant site / user account integrations. I'm quite content with the current scope of messaging here myself.

A Signal Group might work well. A single group can accept 1000 members, it's e2e encrypted, and you don't need cell phone numbers anymore, I don't think. Plus people can break off for 1-on-1 chats too if they like, and ya can't beat the cost, it's free. Got text, audio, and video too. Just an idea.

@Jockstrapguy have you considered using discord? Because I’ve definitely had an idea to create a jockstrap server for chat, pic sharing, and videos. Maybe video chat as well. It’s easy to use in my opinion. I know some may disagree with that, but it never hurts to learn something new.

Honestly, I would prefer any chat to be directly integrated into the software running Your Jockstraps, that way, everyone would be able to keep their usernames and not have to load a second website to chat.

That's the biggest hole to patch up.

I like WearandTear's comment. That kind of Video Chat seems ok. Then again, I'm fine with live text and photo swapping. If two guys want to video chat there are plenty of options. Google Meet performs well. Stay away from Facebook and WhatsApp, etc. Those first two have deals with porn sites and hang on to and trade people's media freely. You can be on a well known phone chat line or computer cruise app and have guys get your personal contact info AND home address from Facebook. It's happened to me twice. It's all in their fine print. Always read Terms and Conditions. It's pretty shocking.
