The recent surge in manufacturers making athletic jockstraps has been nice to see, but… how many manufacturers are truly making their own?

I was looking at some recent 3” waistband purchases from a few different brands and noticed they have the same waistband. The same stitching. The same shape.

AussieBum, Cell Block 13, and Jockmail… just different labels and different prices.

For the record I like all three. Yet I can’t help but feel it isn’t very transparent of the brands to simply put their label on goods all coming from a same, single source.

Next time I get a minute, I’ll include some photos in the replies to illustrate.

I love the Cell Block 13 swimmer jocks, but I never owned either of those other two brands. But anyway , I've noticed the phenomenon that you mentioned has happened with me in some other different products such as shirts that I've bought from different brand labels.

Thanks for the information, Ryan.

Mine is the CB13 Tight End jockstrap (in their swimmer style model.) I still really like it, but I wasn't aware of the fact that it's identical to any other brands. Anyway, I happen to own four different brands of swimmer jocks: CB13, ProProformance, JC Athletic, and Meyer. They're all definitely NOT identical.

(I don't wear them for swimming, I just happen to like that style because of the narrower waistbands and leg straps.)

All in the name of efficiency and profit in the modern economy, right? So often, an idea starts as a more noble and creative concept. Then comes the next step - how can I make a living by selling this tangible outcome of my idea to someone who thinks it's worth letting go of their money in order to obtain my creation? Tale as old as time!

Bike Jocks have varied a lot over the years

I won’t be covering the whole history of Bike or comparing vintage straps, I’ll be looking at the differences between the new owners’ relaunch of the brand against the quality and construction of the original manufacturer’s straps.

Spoiler, I’m not that impressed with the relaunch of the brand so far. Other brands are doing a better job of recreating the classic Bike look and feel.

Alpha Charlie Barracks Jock - $23

AussieBum Classic Jock - $17.23 *

CellBlock 13 Tight End Jockstrap - $22

Jockmail JM223 Jockstrap - wide range of prices from $7.52-$26.50

* The AussieBum jocks are currently on sale for 50% off

A little looking around on AliExpress or Amazon and you can find the Jockmail jocks for $8 or cheaper

All four of these are equivalent other than branding — basically a different patch on the front. All made in China, all 67% Nylon, 20% cotton, 13% elastane (Spandex).

Honestly they’re all decent quality, it’s just a little strange to see so little effort put into marketing athletic jocks when there’s clearly a market thirsty for them.

It would be great to see any one of these brands innovate a touch or commit to making their own jockstraps instead of flooding the market with clones.

Amazon sells the same jock under the brand name Arjen Kroos for $9.99 to $12.99
