I'm the same as subZer0: i'm wearing my jockstraps 24/7...sleep in them, work/live, workout, sex, and everyday activities in my jockstrap. I only own a few pairs of underwear that aren't jockstraps, and they're briefs or thongs. I don't own any boxers or boxer briefs.

As an older man, I've worn a jock strap for most of my life. I couldn't be as active if I didn't. This is an essential item of clothing created to support and control the male anatomy. In the last half of the 20th Century, thanks to the gay community, jock strap manufacturers finally realized that men not only found them useful in sports, but also as an undergarment, and began to create the wide variety of fantastic jock straps that we enjoy today.
Having said all that, I feel I should add that one place you would be better off not wearing them is when going to bed for a night's sleep. Your junk has been held together all day by any number of underwear styles, unless you're a boxer type guy. But considering today's slim styles, I think it's safe to say most guys gotta control their junk to some degree.
Now, our balls were meant to swing free OUTSIDE our body for a reason.; they need to remain at a somewhat lower temp than the rest of our body, otherwise we'll run into problems, most notably infertility and possibility of testicular cancer. You can check the internet for verification, or better yet, your doctor.
Bedtime is the one time of day when those bad boys get a chance to hang loose! Let it all hang out and give them a chance to stretch while you're fast asleep, and in the morning your dick will show you it's gratitude with a nice hard boner, instead of straining against your jock. Your genital will love you for it.

I know what you mean by a ball hammock but what do you actually use to gently cradle the boys? I have a super old and almost see-through jock that sometimes works but I also have a couple of cloth sacks that jewelry (I think) came in. I put the boys in there and tie the drawstring just enough to keep it on and the boys happy. A regular jock pouch can't do that.

So, my boxer briefs have it built in.
They stay snug, but not too much. If I need more support, I'll throw on briefs, but these are amazing compared to regular boxer briefs

I find wearing a jock all night uncomfortable. It’s too constraining for my nighttime hardons. I mostly prefer commando sleeping but if I wear anything I prefer Obviously AnatoMax boxer briefs. The pouch gives me plenty of room for my balls to hang free and ample space for morning wood.

The only thing I discovered with nightly hard ons is take care of business or get busy. Blue balls is a bitch!
