Shorts with built-in jocks?

Hey fellow jock lovers, I’ve seen some content creators showing off some short shorts with built-in jocks (see pic). I admit I do find them intriguing but also like being able to walk around the locker room after a workout in just a jock which you can’t do with these. Has anyone used them? Thoughts? How is the jock quality? And if you enjoy them, any brands you recommend? I like the shorter shorts better than the long basketball style shorts.

I had a pair of workout shorts long time ago...and there were some fit issues because it's two types of garments (one meant to be worn outside, and one inside), sewed together. So I was finding that either the jock fit OR the shorts fit, but never both at the same time. I don't wear the front of my jock as high as my regular shorts. I'm not saying you won't be able to find a pair that works for your body, just need more trial and error with brands and sizes.

Yeah I've been getting ads for these lately too because Bike just starting selling them too I think? In theory I think they have some appeal, but in practice it seems unnecessary compared to just wearing a good jock and fitted shorts. I could see some guys who are initially too nervous to buy a jock trying these out first though or something, so in that sense they could be a good gateway to becoming a jock slut! The Bike jock-shorts do have a waistband that looks almost identical to a Bike jockstrap though, and that being on shorts I found really sexy. I just still think I'd rather have a regular jock underneath. I hope they make more stuff with that style of waistband though!

Exactly. Two different purposes. I agree that it’s possible to find a pair that integrates the two well. Just not sure if it’s worth it. And if it’s a jockstrap manufacturer that adds shorts to a jock, I’d be more open to buying. But shorts that have a jock added won’t prioritize the design of the jock.

I'm pretty sure the first company to design a short with a built in jockstrap was American Jock (aka Go Softwear). We carried their Jock 'n Short for years and was one of our best selling items. As mentioned above by other members,, many guys here wouldn't care for it as they simply prefer wearing a jockstrap on it's own. But, we marketed it this way:

"Easy on, easy off! This two in one gym short and jockstrap combo is perfect for the efficient man."

The included jock was more of a fashion jock - as that's what they carried. With a cotton pouch.

GBGB also designed a short with a built-in jockstrap and we had samples in house but decided not to carry it after throwing it into a photo shoot and realizing that it wasn't well designed but the short itself didn't fit well and looked aesthetically awful.

We've also had some samples from some of the Asian manufacturers but as mentioned above, the jock itself was terrible.

Although I haven't seen it personally, I have confidence that Bike has done a good job with theirs. We know that the built-in jock will be of Bike quality and from the photos, the short looks amazing. Can't wait to hear member's review of it.

I have written elsewhere that a few weeks back I took my Bub/Flarico jockstrap and sewed it into the waistband of some new running shorts from Target. I learned that I had to sew in just the front waistband, leaving the back half of the waistband "free-floating." I like how it feels when I pull them on, tho' it is true, as noted above, that it's not all that different from just pulling on a jock and then shorts. It's not like it saves hours of time to have a sewn in jock.

Perhaps this post would be more appropriate in the "History of the Jockstrap" thread, but gym shorts with sewn-in jocks were not uncommon physical education garments in the 60's and 70's. When I was teaching PE in the late 60's Yale was heavily promoting their supporter/short with a large advertising buy to schools, and incentives to their distributors. There was a lot of hype in their add campaign raving that students would no longer lose or forget their jocks, etc. In the mid-70's, when I changed careers to a manufacturing representative, one of my products was Yale. I only recall receiving bid requests from two school districts for the supporter/shorts. I remember the product as I remember forwarding an inquiry from a district asking if Yale had the jock/shorts available for elementary school sizes, which they did not.

There were a lot of reasons the gym shorts with the built-in jock fell out of favor. One was certainly price, but the biggest reason was design. They simply took a regular jockstrap and attached it to the shorts, sewed waistband to waistband. When students hurriedly donned their shorts, the parts of the jock were not readily visible, and leg straps were frequently destroyed from stretching by an errant leg and foot, rendering the garment unusable. Another reason was that cups were more in vogue in that era, and if a boy was wearing a small size supporter-shorts over a regular jock and cup, the shorts jock would stretch and lose a lot of its support.

The attached advertisement for supporter/shorts from the Missouri school in 1976 was probably about the end of the era for the combination garments.

I have some of the Go Softwear shorts with built in jock, and they are just okay. I kind of like them, but I find the sewn-in pouch pulls the front of the waistband down a bit and looks a trifle odd.

I wish all the new Bike stuff wasn’t so expensive. I haven’t been super impressed with the relaunch of the brand. It’s heavy on the branding part but in my opinion the quality and authenticity does not compare to the old Bike company’s high standards
