Scott, I don't think you would have enjoyed detention PE all that much. In a bygone era class discipline issues were resolved by PE instructors in the locker room with a paddle by having the miscreant drape a retired vaulting horse for some "attitude correction". Something as simple as failure to wear a jock might have resulted in a a couple of swats. By the late 60's corporal punishment fell out of favor replaced by detention PE sessions.Detention P.E.? I would have gotten in a lot more trouble![]()
Generally 10 or 15 minutes of calisthenics, followed in good weather with perhaps a mile run. Nothing really abusive, but not a pleasant way to end the school day for most. In schools where laundered PE uniforms were provided for each student, unless PE class was the last hour this meant yet another PE uniform and towel for the evening laundry detail.
