Jockstrap Central model Oscar

If I only knew back then what I know now! We not only shot him on a stark white background but had issues with the lighting - this was 2006, less than a year after launching Jockstrap Central .

What I wouldn't do to get this hot guy back in front of our camera. Unfortunately, he died of cancer shortly after this shoot and never got a chance for a second shoot. Such a sexy and super-nice guy and an awesome model.

These were shot by Norman Hatton. Norman did all our photography for the first nine years of business. Back then, my role was to simply do fittings, adjust straps, cut off loose threads, all the while trying to hide my non-stop boner. We're professional, after all!

*Oscar was and still is our oldest model we ever shot. He was 65 at the time of the shoot.

Would love to. Problem is, we can only shoot those who applies for the job. Of course, they also have to be in or near Toronto. I would also love to be shooting more ethnic guys.

Right now, most of our models are coming from Instagram (about the only thing it's good for).

Before Instagram, we used to put classified ads in Kijiji looking for models. We did it once every three months or so. Although we got a lot of great models through it (Andrew for one, it was a pain in the ass. Out of 20 replies, 10 would be promising (based on the photos they sent). We would set aside a day to meet those models and out of 10, we'd be lucky if 5 showed up. Out of those 5, one or two might have been suitable.

But, the diversity of the guys was amazing.

Now, thanks to IG, they're contacting us but most of them are young and mostly white. Don't get me wrong, I love still love shooting them but would just love to have a bit more ethnic (and age) diversity.

There's a really sexy 57 year old (according to your profile) that would make a GREAT model, is in Toronto, and, presumably, would nail the audition/vetting process. The question is, would you turn the camera on yourself?

There's a really sexy 57 year old (according to your profile) that would make a GREAT model, is in Toronto, and, presumably, would nail the audition/vetting process. The question is, would you turn the camera on yourself?

Thank you for those kind words. Unfortunately, you'll have to dream a bit longer. You may have read some of my posts here and there on this site, but I'm going through lots of health issues right now. I had colon surgery and an ileostomy installed, I'm having surgery this coming Monday to deal with an issue in my groin area where they're going to have to take skin from my leg to fix the spot they're removing. Although it will only be an overnight visit at the hospital because of where it is, I'm pretty sure healing is going to take a while - not to mention even more scars to add to my collection.

I'm feeling pretty ugly and a bit defeated right now. If I can ever get this ileostomy reversed then maybe I can consider shooting some selfies, but we've tried three times now and each time something has come up to prevent it.

Obviously take care of yourself and lots of prayers n good vibes are being sent your way! I'm a nurse and I can understand the challenges and emotional roller-coaster you're going through with your health and self-image...take things one day at a time.
...but, also obviously, lots of us are looking forward to "someday" selfies! As for scars and imperfections, a big appeal of JSC and this site is seeing "real" guys and seeing ourselves reflected in advertisements. The post about model Oscar, and your remarks about older models and diversity, is what prompted me to comment that you'd make a great model!

Thank you guys for all the support, I really appreciate it I don't want to dwell on my health here in this forum, I mention it occasionally in my profile wall posts and with some of you in Conversations (private messages). Honestly, I love all the friendships I've made here with so many of you.

As for scars, I really don't have an issue with them, in fact quite the opposite. As @NaturalOne77 mentioned, I rarely remove them on our models in Photoshop, unless they have asked me to. Scars are all a part of our journey. Mine are still new so I'm coming to terms with them.

A few final comments and then we can shift the focus back to the beautiful Oscar:

Countless photographers I've met don't like to turn the camera back on themselves. Perhaps it's one of the reasons they became a photographer?

Also: A long time ago, I was in a very toxic relationship. My partner was depressed and ended up getting hooked on Cocaine (injecting it). He was disappearing for days and he was cheating on me. The cocaine fed off of his depression and he ended up trying to kill himself 3 times until the fourth time he did it.

Needless to say, it was a terrible time and I was feeling pretty depressed myself. Finally, I knew I had to take my life back so I went to my good friend Norman (he was the original photographer for Jockstrap Central) and asked him to do a photoshoot of me naked. It was completely out of my comfort zone but it was empowering and did the trick.

Unfortunately, the photo shoot was awful, I hated the photos (no fault of Norman's) but I gained a huge amount of respect for our models. They all come with this incredible confidence that is in my mind the most important talent of a model. And before you ask me for the photos, I don't have them. Norman kept them and he passed away last February and the photos died with him.
