How do you wear your protective cup?

I didn’t realize there were so many different ways to wear a jock and cup until I started thinking about doing this poll. Presumably clothing or other gear would be worn on top of these options, but I guess it depends on what kind of activity you're doing Perhaps the answer depends on the sport? Let us know!

The option "Between compression shorts and a jockstrap" seemed a bit strange to me, but one time I heard that's "how the pros do it."

Also, is hockey the only sport with its own kind of cup protective gear?

You’re right about that wearing a cup between compression shorts and a jock. I think it started becoming popular about 15 years ago. I will say this though, you can’t knock it till you try it. It’s a completely different feeling. Even though a lot of folks talked about ^ that way of wearing a cup, I would wear 2 jocks, and put the cup between them. The one on the outside was a size smaller than what I normally wear, to keep the cup from moving out of place.

It is hockey goalies that have their own special cups. They often wear two cups. When I played I wore a regular jock and cup and then a special goalie cup over it. There are also special goalie double cup jocks. I haven't tried them but they are becoming more and more popular.

I usually wear my cup in a jock against my skin and then a pair of compression shorts on top to hold everything in place. The problem is that in sports like rugby and MMA where there is a lot of running or kicking, the cup tends to move which isn't good and defeats the purpose of wearing one. Compression shorts help stop this.

In summer there are other problems, like sweating. After playing for 3 hours, the cup causes the inside of my thighs to chafe. So I will wear a pair of compression shorts and then my jockstrap and cup over them to prevent this from happening.

Option 3 is what I actually wear. Another problem is that traditional cups don't cup under well, which is a problem in MMA. Looks like in option 1 your cup does protect you from beneath. Kicks there are killers.

Many athletes wear a cup between compression shorts and another jock because of chafing. While wearing a cup in a jock against your skin provides you with optimal protection, I know from experience that after playing a sport for a couple hours the cup really causes your thighs to chafe.

Baseball sliding shorts are a good option as they are thin and stretch. Some players wear them, then a cup + jockstrap, and then compression shorts on top to hold everything in place.

I've been tempted to wear a cup for dirt riding and tried it once for Motocross but the cup jammed into my junk. It provided protection but wasn't comfortable.

As I've opined before in this forum, and in agreement with some of the comments above, IMHO wearing a cup jock is by far the most comfortable and secure — as opposed to a cup in a pouch in compression shorts, as the cup tends to wander around your groin. Wearing a cup jock on bare skin can be really uncomfortable due to chafe on the thighs, to say nothing of needing to wash the cup jock more often, and the possibility of having a nut fall out from beneath the cup (if you are hung loose). Indeed, I have never seen a college or pro hockey player wear a cup in compression shorts, or wear a cup jock on bare skin. Most all wear compression shorts or leggings as a base layer, with the cup jock on top of that. Many also wear a regular jock under the compression shorts or leggings to keep everything in place under the cup jock.

Always inside the cup pouch of the jock. I prefer snap-type pouches. I have two cup jocks. A vintage Flarico no. 42 and a vintage Defender. If I'm wearing my JOFA cup, I wear a well-seasoned jockstrap underneath. After a few hours, the jock gets really sweaty and smells awesome.

I liked the Defender jocks and cups but haven't seen them in years.

Most cups don't work well for MX because they get in the way of putting my crouch against the front of the seat. And the fit must be snug so it doesn't get pushed around by contact with the seat.

No probs at all Cuplover. quite enjoyed trying out the options. Fave? the cricket jock felt best, the little green Aussies felt sexiest. like the Bike Man I like the feel of the cup against my cock. ~~~cold at first!

@jockedtoplay Yeah, I've heard of mountain bikers trying out cups and not being impressed with the way it fits with the bike, despite the obvious benefits of not getting your nuts crushed.

@MiPrepJock Good point about the chafing. That would explain why it's not more popular. Although on most of my jocks putting the cup in the pouch is a pain.

I mtn bike too. There's the tradeoff of protection v. the cup getting in the way. Need the find the cup that fits you on the bike. The fits must be snug too. Wearing an old jock I double jock to hold the cup in place.

Got nailed in the nuts sparring and it hurt even though I was wearing a cup. Switched to a Titan Alloy cup. Incredibly comfortable and you feel nothing, just like a Diamond MMA cup. It does give you a huge bulge.
