I changed with other boys to go swimming and stuff from a pretty young age - don't really remember when it started. Changed clothes for PE class starting in 7th grade. First shower was after a lacrosse game in 8th grade - only a handful of us got naked, the rest showered with their underwear on. I got naked, and got hard. Same. I think the decline of that has spurred a lot of homophobia. Ask your most liberal buddies if they are homophobic they would likely say no. Tell them to wear a jockstrap and change in a locker room, or to sit un wrapped in a steam room, or to wear a speedo to a pool or beach and listen to all the hemming and hawing and anxiety they have.

I must have been nine or ten years old and we were at summer camp, a big communal shower where everyone was naked and we changed in front of each other in the rooms. It was kind of natural. (I didn't even hear about jockstraps until I was an adult. Sadly there are no more men’s athletic clubs like this at least in NYC.

We started showering for gym in 4th grade-6th grade. I remember there being some nervous laughs seeing our classmates naked but things soon normalized. There was not much to see anyway. I do remember kicking soap bars around the gang shower and they could really hurt if you got hit by one. Our Jr High school was in a very old building with decrepit showers which were not used. My dad is still a member of that club and my brothers and I still join him on occasion when we are in town. Over the 4th of July we all went to work out, steam etc then had lunch, the locker room has been updated but everyone still walks around naked.
