Elementary school jockstraps?

Started about 6th grade, when some of the guys started needing them at age 12-ish. In our schools, "elementary" school went up to grade 7.
Here in USA grade 7 we start using a jock for PE . However there are some boys playing soccer at a younger age it’s usually some brief that has a pouch for cup.

Like most of you my introduction to jockstraps was 7th grade PE class. Nevertheless, in elementary schools where boys changed into gym clothes for PE class, it was not uncommon that jocks be required starting in 4th and 5th grade. I saw a few PE curriculum guides indicating jocks in 3rd grade, and vaguely recall one school which had 2nd grade students donning jockstraps under their gym shorts. Anyone with any perspective of pre-puberal male anatomy would certainly have to ask WHY? This topic was previously well discussed in the "History of the Jockstrap" forum at this site, where I posted several school PE uniform lists, such as the attached.

My dad knew 7th grade was in my future so after 6th grade it was summer and time for shorts and swimsuits. My brother happened to have a jockstrap he outgrew but would fit me perfectly. So it was Bauer and black jock from Boy Scouts. It fit my slim body and was very comfortable. I felt like just like dad and brother at beach.

There were plenty of boys/youth supporters out there even up till fairly recently… I grabbed a few photos from an eBay listing for a bike youth small supporter - for a 14-20” waist which is the smallest I’ve ever seen. Plenty of others had sizes starting at 20”waist. Seems like these could have fit an elementary school boy and actually been small enough to support whatever he may be working with at that age.

That’s all good. But the fact the manufacturers should still be making youth jocks and available at all sporting goods stores. Compassion shorts or youth briefs are offered instead.

Speaking of elementary schools. Did you know that dodgeball is banned? I think even for high school too. Which is a sport I think you’d want to wear a jockstrap for.

I couldn’t agree more - the briefs and compression shorts can’t possibly provide the same support. Especially when you’re smaller, I would think.

Dodgeball really. The kids these days are getting coddled if they can’t learn to play everything we did and wearing a jockstrap.
My fiance in school in 2007-2014 never wore jockstrap and he still doesn’t like me.

I saw an old ad for Bike jocks (vintage) that said “don’t wear one without the other” and was saying basically if you are putting on gym shoes you should put on a jock

View attachment 100341My purchase yesterday at Macys department store. I wish more teen guys had the option to wear jock that comfortable as non sports underwear.
Hey at least they still exist somewhere brick and mortar. I think you got two categories of jocks and uses for them - the ones here are probably comfortable for every day but look kinda flimsy for working out. Need a more tight supportive jock. But this shouldn’t be so hard for people to understand. Figure you have different types of bras for girls/women - regular everyday types and then sports bras which are geared toward that.

These definitely are not good for sports but support enough I feel in general. There is nothing better then good supporting jock for sports.

I’ve seen the light since - but even for me, high school 2002-2006, never a mention of jocks in PE, nobody dared wear them. Probably has to be a requirement again before it would really take off. And need more options again.

I’ve been lucky to chat with a few young men 2007-2021 chatted about the need for a good fitting sports jock and also fashion jockstraps. All the young men have embraced wearing all the jocks and shared knowledge with their circle of friends or relatives.
The schools now are afraid to push the rules that were put in place so boys wear Boxerbriefs or boxers or switched back to regular briefs so afraid to wear jocks because of bare butt showing.

Looking around online I’ve found a few schools that still say a jock is required in their rule books. Definitely rare but not totally extinct.

Sounds like you were a real jockstrap evangelist!

Thank you
The young men learned real quickly that the jocks felt better to run in and wearing for PE class . The fashion jocks came later one the boys exchanged jocks between the group. Soon I got asked by other boys more why thier coach’s didn’t inform them they should wear a jocks.

Our shorts were much shorter two inches above the knee
.....our JUNIOR HIGH AND SENIOR HIGH GYM-SHORTS were very very-short!...like, 6-8 inches or more above the knee!...THAT`S why I LOVED watching BASKETBALL AND WRESTLING!...EVERY-CHANCE-I-GOT!...so-many really-HOT-exposures!...talk about "fallout", there was plenty to enjoy!...especially, if the guys were really-hairy, and had nice thick dark plentiful pubes, and real-hairy-legs and armpits!...WHOOO!...I`m getting-aroused!

We wore cup jocks in elementary school, for hockey from age 8 or 9. Over white briefs. Like most everyone else above, started to wear a regular jockstrap under gym shorts in seventh grade, age 11 or 12. Funny, because the first day of gym having been told to buy and wear regular jocks, the hockey players wore their jocks over their briefs. Didn't know otherwise. The basketball players, who had started to wear regular jocks in sixth grade, laughed at us and showed us how they were supposed to be worn — as the base layer. The next day we all wore them on our bare skin and that was that. Communal showers, too, from seventh grade on. We hockey players continued to wear our cup jocks over briefs until later in HS when we were playing spring or summer league with guys who were playing college and pro. We saw in the locker room that most of them were wearing regular jocks under lightweight shorts or union suits, and their cup jock over that. Most of us switched to "double-jocking" which we discovered was much more comfortable.

I’m sorry he didn’t like you or didn’t wear a jockstrap. It sounds like you dogged a bullet there. What an uncultured swine 😂😂😂

Sorry I meant he didn’t like the jocks but we are still a couple sorry for the mixup.
Oh well I’m happy for you. Jocks aren’t for everyone. It’s a shame really, but as long as your happy I’m happy

@CoachBob posted this earlier from my school district. You can see the requirement for an athletic supporter started in 4th grade which in most schools is elementary grade level. This was true thru 1972 when I finished 8th grade.

I started wearing a jockstrap in 5th grade for basketball. Ace athletic supporter - I wanted a Bike like most of my teammates had. Some wore Duke.

One of my teammates had one of these when we were in 5th grade. The size was called "regular" back then. We came across this tiny jock one night in his room a few years later. It basically fit around the thigh of one leg.
