My drug of choice is Tadalafil (Cialis). I started taking it at about 62. I was able to get an erection... but it wasn't as easy or "hard" as it used to be. I got an Rx for 5mg everyday. It quickly made a difference. It was much easier to get a good solid erection. I really noticed erections at night/sleeping that used to be non-existent. After about a week I started getting fairly significant lower back pain (a listed side effect.) I started cutting the tablets in half and taking 2.5 mg per day. The back pain went away and it was still just as effective. You can buy ninety 5mg tadalafil tablets for about $30 using a coupon from goodrx.com That lasts me six months. You do need a prescription to buy them. I was a bit embarrassed but my doctor didn't raise an eyebrow. I do miss using poppers. You aren't supposed to mix them with Viagra/Cialis. I've had Viagra samples from the Dr many years ago. I had less success with them and had a side effect of a sore throat. (NOT related to sex! LOL)

I read that "cutting the tables in half" for a second, quite the boner pill 🤭

ED affects men 10% more with each decade of life i.e. 40% of men over 40, 50% of men over 50, 60% for men over 60 etc.
sildenafil Viagra is the most potent and short lived and tadalafil has the longest duration so you do not have to time the pill. Any adverse effects are attributed to all in the same class meaning viagra, cialis, levitra etc. and can be dose specific so cutting in half for some people helps.

all that said ED is often a canary in the coal mine for heart disease so that is why they say make sure your heart is strong enough for sexual activity.

it is also helpful to know if it is not getting hard for psychological vs physical reasons.

I got some samples from my lady doctor back 20 years ago after heart surgury. I wasn't a big fan of them due to the side effects of headache and blurred vision. ( Nothing worse than a guy with a boner, a head ache, and you can't see where you are pointing the thing!) Turns out I was over medicated on blood pressure meds and the need for the drugs was eliminated. Long story, get a good exam before you jump on the drugs. Once you start them you will be dependent on them.

So what I’m hoping is that
As I am 57 and as yet have no symptoms,
I want to rely on this statistic to work such that the increase in propensity occurs upon entry to each decade of age instead of gradually increasing throughout the progression of years,
So that my next “worry point” is not for 2 years, 10 months instead of living in fear that today is the day that Billy Jr. will fail. 😉

so it goes use it or lose it. it's another part of your body that needs to be excercised.

This exact thing happened to a buddy of ours about 8 yrs ago. He had a sudden heart attack, had a stent (the next day!), then was put on blood pressure meds to keep strain off his heart. Suddenly this 35 yr old couldn’t get it up — man was that stressful! His cardio doc suggested that he compensate for the BP meds with the ED drugs. He declined . . . and saw a different cardio doc. That one suggested they moderate the prophylactic BP meds and see what happened. BOOM he was back in business again — “Little Frank” was “back from vacation” and as reliable he’d always been. That second cardio doc told Frank that the biggest danger for men after a heart attack is depression (outside of any permanent damage the heart attack caused, if it did, which in his case it didn’t), so the moderation of the forced very low BP was the right answer, at least for then. So far his heart remains as strong, and that’s with plenty of “cardio” thanks to “Little Frank”’s return from that “vacation”! LOL

As @jacquestrap said, for me it was not as hard or lasting as long. And a noticeable decline in morning wood. Mine started after a heart attack and new blood pressure meds. Doctor wrote the prescription, insurance denied it. So the hunt for alternative sources started. I found Viagra worked, but gave me a congested headache and had to do some planning to time it right. Cialis daily is perfect for me, no side effects and always ready. And plenty of morning wood! Currently getting it from BlueChew.

Okay guys. There are many hidden things. Like sleep apnea. Maybe this belongs in the men’s health thread but this is linked to early mortality among other things. When I use my CPAP I get into dreams and REM boners which I love., but this does help.

I was taking generic Cialis for a few months. I was taking antidepressants for a while, which make it harder to get an erection. I couldn’t wake up with an erection the entire time, and that was making me more depressed, so I did my research.

the main difference is how the drugs affect you. You take viagra when you’re planning to get laid in the next hour or so. You take cialis when you’re planning on getting laid in the next couple days. It’s not as strong as viagra, but it lasts significantly longer.

cialis seemed like the right option for me, and it did wonders. Waking up with a raging boner really sets the mood for the entire day.

I didn’t notice any negative side affects, but that might have been because I normally experience it’s side affects anyway.

before you choose to go that route though:
It’s always better to not have to take drugs. So make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating well, staying hydrated, and working out. If you can achieve the same results by spending an hour at the gym, it’ll do better for you to go to the gym. But if you’re doing all this, and still need the help, there’s absolutely no shame in getting the help to get your motor running. And having a proudly standing boner will certainly reaffirm that.

Except you just have to get up earlier . . . to take care of it! 😈🐷

Hi Jockplay,
I’ve been taking Cialis for several years now. Originally my GP started me on Viagra, but it didn’t agree with me, so he swapped me onto Cialis.
While I’m sure that there can be health risks with it, I’ve never suffered from any.
Several years ago I suffered a very minor heart attack on an evening. When the paramedics came, they said that they’d give me something to reduce the pain and my blood pressure and they asked me if I was on BP reducing tablets - I wasn’t - and then they asked me if I’d taken VIagra etc.
I was too embarrassed to admit that I had ( I’d had a great afternoon session with a guy I’d met) and said no. They injected me with the drug, but I didn’t suffer any disastrous effects of a very low BP.
I have since been placed on BP reducing tablets, but my GP isn’t concerned about my Cialis prescription clashing with them.
Also, during my consultation with the urologist about having my prostate shaved, (see my post in the Men’s Health forum) I mentioned about the possible side effects of impotence and his reply was to take Cialis twice a week!
I just hope that he’s not being paid by the Cialis manufacturer!

About fifteen years ago I started to notice I could bend my dick (I have a muscle disease), even when it looked hard. It was a little bit difficult to talk about it to my doc, I said: “I noticed my erections aren’t hard enough anymore”. My doc prescribed me Cialis (Tadalafil) 20 mg (largest dose). He said try half (10 mg), I tried but it didn’t seem enough so I tried 20 mg & my dick was rock hard, just like it would be when I was in my mid teens.
But, the 20 mg felt very unnatural, I discovered Cialis daily (5 mg), asked a prescription for them. Taking Cialis daily felt very natural, I just take the Cialis with my other pills, don’t have to schedule sex & the erections feel very natural, I only used Cialis, I never tried Viagra.
Fifteen years ago Cialis daily was very expensive, over two hundred US$ a month so I tried taking less & it worked just fine.
If you want extra confidence on certain occasions, you can always take some when your doc says it’s OK. Now I take 2,5 mg daily (half a small tablet), the 5 mg tablets are very small but with a pill cutter it’s very easy to cut the small Cialis tablets in half.
Nowadays it’s very easy for me to talk about it to my doc, I just aks a prescription for tadalafil, that’s it. The first time in the pharmacy it was awkward but it’s like buying condoms the first time, the second time wasn’t awkward for me anymore. Most customers don’t know what “Taladafil” is. Last year I was in hospital with digestion problems, the nurses saw it was on my med list & didn’t know what it is. The customers who do know what it is, probably aren’t going to say anything about it. Even if they would say something, I don’t care.
In real life I even talked about it with the (adult) guys of my hockey team.
