Sewing a jock into running shorts

I am no seamster but I have done repair sewing now and again over the years.
A few weeks ago, I bought some inexpensive running shorts at Target. They had a liner, but has anyone ever had a pair of running shorts where the liners was useful (actually, now that I write that, I did have a pair once, noteworthy Bec it was the only time?
Anyway, I took that pair and hefted up the front panels of the liner and shred about an inch int to the waistband for a few inches on either side of the centre of the front. That improved their support, tho I 'm now considering hiking up the seat cover and attaching it to the back of the waistband.
THEN, I remembered that I'd had a couple of shorts with jockstraps sewn in back in the 90's. I have a Bub/Flarico jock that might perfect for that, so today I returned to Target and bought another pair. I think it'd be cool to have a sewn in jock, right?
You can google these things, but I like the idea of it being my OWN work, even if it's amateurish. Any thoughts?

Mark both waist bands at center, 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4. Pin them together at these marks. Using a ball point needle and a wide zig zag stitch. Stretch them at marks and sew together. Use more than one row of stitches,

Unless you have a bud willing to get poked, to stretch it out, set the bottom of a 5 gallon pail into the waistband of the jock and then set that into the top of the shorts and line everything up to pin it in several places. Must be a guy out there somewhere willing to wear both while you pin.

I hate when social media spies on me. Read this thread a few minutes ago and then went on FB. Scroll a little and see this…

Wow. I've never seen these, tho I've seen some that are kinda comparable.
Back in the 90's I had a pair with a built-in jock. They were much longer than these but had a slit side, and I always remember lying on an incline plane, head at the bottom, at the gym to do sit ups and the shorts legs just flopped down and "open" and you could see the leg strap.

My Flarico jock is still sewn into the waistband of my new 5" running shorts. I did it myself so I'm all extra proud! However, I suspect the cotton stitches might give way not that long from now. I bought some polyester thread at a fabric store, and it was all I could do not to tell the unsuspecting female clerk: "Know why I'm buying these? So I can sew my JOCKSTRAP into my short and makes sure my BALLS are supported." I'd have loved to see the look on her face.
