Aside for the fact that the tunnel showers provided a rapid way to shower down large groups, the "undercarriage spray" was not that uncommon particularly at schools with nude swimming. Keep in mind that physical education not only promoted good health through exercise and sports, it also encouraged good hygiene practices. All of us should agree that not everyone maintains proper cleanliness in our crotches and "cracks", and the under spray nozzles no doubt served their intended purpose.
