Locker Room Showers

I was fortunate enough to grow up in high school with jockstraps, and gang showers that coach made sure everyone used. I know gang showers have gone by the wayside and younger guys will never know what it is like to shower with all of your classmates after a hard workout. I live in Atlanta now, and in a city this size I have only been able to find one gym, a YMCA (and yes that’s why I joined it) that still has a gang shower. What did you grow up with, and what does your gym have now?

Beginning in junior high through high school athletic supporters and showers were required. We could see changes in our bodies as we progressed through school like growth of pubic hair.

I spent the 70s in jr hi and hi school. Mandatory jockstraps and gang showers were the norm back then. The showers at both schools had spigots along the wall every 3-4 feet as well as 2 columns in the middle with 4 spigots each. 18 guys could shower at the same time.

We might have gone to the same middle and high schools.

Yes same there was 4 shower heads open concept same at the ymca.

Spent about 10 years (in my mid-20s-30s) at an old school YMCA. Gang showers, Small steam room, and very hot sauna. Every guy was either in jockstraps or naked walking around. It was heaven. I always felt like I was bonding with my male brothers. So hot.

Yes same here and all hockey arenas had open concept as well so lots of guys in jocks showering and comparing muscle mas etc

Started sported in the late 80s - had concrete shower room to step into that had 4 shower heads on opposing walls, heads about 3 feet apart.

Elementary school had gang showers but they were only used by the boys basketball team. Middle school had them, primarily used by boys basketball team but occasionally gym classes too. I made sure I showered.
High school was used primarily by football, wrestling, basketball, and baseball teams, but occasionally other sports and gym. Again, always made sure I showered after sports and gym.
Jockstraps where optional, but I strapped up.

Starting in 7th grade - junior high - and through 12th grade - an athletic supporter was was required in gym class, as was a shower after class. Both the junior high and senior had one big open room, with showerheads along the walls. There was no hiding what you had (or didn't have).... The YMCA near me still had one big open shower room, but that was many years ago since I have been there.
