Hi - new here. Just wondering how many of you were given your first jock for swimming? I got mine by surprise by my dad. I was about 13 and had a nylon swimsuit in those days they were a bit loose fitting. He came home one night and delivered me a bag and asked me if I knew what an athletic supporter was. I told him no. He asked if I knew what a jock strap was, and I said yes. He said some boys need more support than others and that I should wear this under my swim suit. Later he quietly mentioned to me a couple of other things I should wear it under, to help with "modesty". It was a big kick to have to "jock up" under my nylon swim suit. I did notice at school (this would be 8th grade) several of the boys wore jocks under their suits as well. As swimsuits got smaller and became lycra, we did away with the swim jocks. But I have a couple of unlined board shorts and to this day wear a swim jock under them.

Telling me to wear it under my swim trunks and for school pe class etc. It was just a regular 3 in waist Bike jock. I dont remember any swim jockstraps at that time, but did notice a lot of jock waistbands showing at the pool. I was one of just a few 5-6th graders wearing a jock for pe class, but starting 7th grade we got a regular lockeroom and jockstraps and showers were required for gym class. I liked wearing a jock and eventually wore jocks more and more. I always thought a jockstrap was better than the built in liners of swim trunks and continue to wear them even today.

I should say that the first one was NOT a swimmer but regular jock. Swimmer came later. You are 100% right they are better than the built-in liners.

First jock I had was for PE.

I think that was part of the reason he got me the jock in the first place - I was tenting my nylon swim suit. And yeah, for sure I was boned up with the jock. I ended up wearing it a lot - under jeans, etc. But it gave me more confidence and I knew it would help hold me in better in the suit.

Just curious - do you know what motivated her to get you the jock? Were you showing a lot in your swim suit?
