Elementary school jockstraps?

I started wearing jockstraps when my dad gave me his old used one when i started playing soccer in 5th grade. Soon he bought me my first cup and a new Bike #10. He threw away all my other underwear by the time I was 11 and i have been wearing a jock and cup exclusively ever since.

This is so interesting. Did he also always wear jockstraps? Do you think he had a thing for them, too?

The thread How old were you when you started to wear a jock got me thinking… most of you guys started to wear them for gym class or sports at roughly 7th grade, what I would consider middle school age.
How common was it for boys to wear jockstraps in elementary school (Kindergarten-6th grade)? Like, for gym, football, etc?

I got my first cup and supporter when I was like 8 or 9, when we switched from coach pitch to kid pitch for little league. I was a big kid, and I'm pretty sure my dad got me an adult small cup and supporter, which meant the cup was enormous on me. I wore a cup and supporter from that point on for baseball, then for football starting in 5th grade (stopped wearing a cup for football when I got to high school and just wore a regular jockstrap under my girdle) and lacrosse starting in 6th grade. Outside of contact sports like that though, we weren't required to wear a jockstrap for gym or anything like that. My first non-cup jockstrap was the one I got freshman year of HS for football (and anything else athletic).

When my son was 6-7 years old, they had to wear a cup for baseball. It was in a compression shorts type underwear though instead of a jock.

Yeah, he only wore a jockstrap and cup for as long as I can remember. He also only let me wear a tight red speedo at the pool. I remember him saying something about giving the other dads something to look at when I complained that all the other boys were wearing board shorts.

Guys on my team just didn't really wear them for football. I know there are pics of cupped football players out there (big fan of those pics) but I feel like in general wearing a cup for football is pretty rare.

I can’t fathom that. Why wouldn’t you want to protect your manhood. Especially as a football player, why wouldn’t you want to protect it for the cheerleaders

As much as I love a big cup bulge in football pants, even I'll admit that it's pretty rare to get hit in the nuts playing football. Usually as long as everything is supported and kept together with a regular jockstrap you'll be fine. If you do get hit there it's probably more of a glancing blow and it'll hurt but you won't lose a nut or anything. What I really can't understand is guys who don't wear a cup playing sports like lacrosse or baseball or hockey, where you could easily get hit in the nuts hard enough to cause permanent serious damage. I was playing in a lacrosse game yesterday and my stick accidentally like barely grazed the groin of the defender who was covering me. He was like "UGH fuck dude that hurt!". I apologized but right away he was like "it's alright dude I should be wearing a cup obvi".

As I have written before, my father gave me one of his old jockstraps when I was taking swimming lessons the summer between fifth and sixth grade. I was the only boy wearing a jock and I was bit embarrassed. My father told me little about wearing a supporter. I saw my father wearing one, so I figured it out. In seventh grade, we were required to wear a jockstrap for physical education class.
