sizing

Thinking about graduating from a Velcro cockring to metal. Any advice on how to properly measure to get the correct size? JC has some general directions but I’d like people’s experience measuring. Thanks

My waist size is 35 or 36..... I'm always trying to decide if I need to order a medium or a large? Any advice as to which size I should try first? I know sizing varies between brands, but I'd like not to have to buy a medium and large in every brand I want.... It's a conundrum for me.
