The filthy Duke that was my dad’s he had worn several times just before he died. It was about 20 years old when he died, so it was good and broken in.
First Jockstrap?
My dad took me when I was 12 to buy my first jockstrap at a local, non chain sporting goods store. That was 1979, in Annapolis, MD. We’d just moved, I was starting a new middle school, was accepted to the baseball team and had to have gear that my previous middle school didn’t require for baseball. (Fools!) He bought me a boy’s Medium <s>Bike</s> Champion (was reading my journal and found that I’d misremembered) — standard white wide waistband strap (not sure it was a full 3” at that size). I came out in just that (so effectively bareassed) to show the salesman and my dad the fit. There were two other guys in the shop in USMC workout clothes — one what I learned and wore later were “silkies” and one had a Semper Fi tshirt. Both complimented me and my dad, and I suddenly felt like I was a man for the first time.
