Mostly taken a while back. Jockstraps in rugby league (and union) have all but disappeared in the past 20 years, firstly displaced by compression shorts and latterly in past ten years by " budgie Smugglers"

Indeed, but I would say in UK probably 90%+ of Rugby League teams and a large amount of Rugby Union teams would use them.
Apart from their general use and availability, most pro teams and national teams have their own club/ country logo print on the fabric.

In Grade 8, I remember another boy, Bob, who like me was very developed physically for his age (13) used to wear a green speedo type swimsuit under his shorts for gym. (It was only the following year that we were introduced to jockstraps.) Believe me, I noticed.

Cups (a cup is called a "box" here in UK) are not worn for either code of rugby. They are in fact precluded from being worn as the rules of rugby code which apply to use of kit do not permit players to wear any protection which contains "hard" materials. An exception may be permitted by the game referee if a particular player has a specific need to wear a cup (box).
