It pisses me off when people succumb to political bullshit. It was a WAR — Vietnam was a fucking WAR, where over 58k American servicemen DIED and many times that were injured in ways that were worse than those who gave their lives. Just because idiot politicians didn’t declare the WAR, we were IN the WAR! Those men were sent to WAR.

YEAH!, you`re QUITE-RIGHT BillyC...it most-definitely WAS "WAR!"...with all the horrors, killings and atrocities...and, yes, many many young-guys lost-their-lives or were pretty-badly-wounded!...and, THAT`S why l can`t go and visit the VIETNAM-WALL in Washington D.C....l had such good-buddies in-the-Army and, after "basic-training" and AIT (advanced-infantry-training, we all-got split-up and, sent-to-different-locations and, we lost-contact-with-each-other!...I don`t think l could-handle-it if l saw the names of some of the guys l knew real-well and liked-a-lot, on-that-wall!...l don`t really want-to-know about the guys-that-didn`t-make-it-back!...l have good-memories of those-guys l knew and-liked in-the-Army!...it was really a terrible-time for so-many-young-guys-like-me, who-were-drafted!...l have some health-issues now that could-pertain-to-the-use-of "agent-orange" that-was-"air-born" and, affects-the-nervous-system!.....JAKE

The Wall is a must . . . as is every memorial to men who gave their lives in war. Sometimes we have to lose it. We can’t forget.

‘the 1970s and-on were such wonderful-times to-be-living-through!...the cars, the clothes and the music…’

Jake, living in the UK in the 1970s, there was nothing great about the rampant homophobia from the media plus the police harassment, and in my case the fear of being outed while in the RN or the constant worry of being set on by the far right National Front thugs. Even for civilians, there was the furtive ducking into a gay bar or club and then as you left, hoping there was nobody - police, NF, drunk blokes etc. - waiting to pounce on you.
Yes, musically punk rock was a blast, but not many punk rockers liked gay people. The only good thing was that it was the pre-AIDS era and, Armed Forces excepted, homosexuality for men over 21 was actually legal, providing you were in accommodation owned by one of the two participants.
Sorry, Jake, as a closeted by circumstance gay male, I for one didn’t enjoy the 70s, and the early 80s weren’t much better either for much the same reasons. Then the AIDS epidemic hit and all the usual suspects blamed gay men for spreading it.

well engjock, l`m really-sorry you didn`t-enjoy the 60s, 70s or 80s!...l truly-am!...things were quite-different-here in-the-UNITED STATES!...it was kind-of-like the-age-of "anything-goes!"...l was in-the-military in-the-late-60s and, even while l was stationed-overseas, the MUSIC really-changed, and, became "more-lively-and-psychedelic"...thanks-to-the BEATLES and the "BRITISH" influx into the "music-scene" here at-that-time!...PETULA CLARK was on-the radio QUITE a-LOT!...and, so-was-LULU! (she even did the theme-music for the movie "TO SIR WITH-LOVE!" with actor SIDNEY POITIER!...and, "TWIGGY" was quite-a-big-influence into the "fashion-scene" then and, was on many-magazine-covers as well!...DISCOTEQUES were popping-up-everywhere!...and, l was quite-young, very-impressionable, and, l LOVED all-that!...and, the music at-that-time was quite-exciting!...l was extremely-energetic, l loved dancing, working-out and, l had a very-enjoyable and creative-job and, life-was-good (before-AIDS and, the VIETNAM-WAR)...THAT sure put a damper-on-things!...l also remember seeing "the assassination-of-President John-F-Kennedy" on TV... THAT was quite-traumatizing!...l was a teenager and, we only had a black and white television and, it wasn`t-a-"big-screen"-television like nowadays!...it was good times and bad!...but, l best-remember the music, fashion-changes, etc, they were the most impressionable!...JAKE
