In case you didn't see my message in the contest post...

I'm heading into surgery Wednesday morning. I should be in hospital for 5 to 7 days then I'll be home recovering. It will probably be another week after that before I'm able to sit at my desk comfortably. So, Your Jockstraps will be basically be on auto-pilot.

In my absence... try to keep this community going by taking some time and leaving comments and reactions on all the photos and posts - it takes a lot of courage to post photos and a little encouragement can go a long way. Once I'm back on my feet and caught up on things, my first task for Your Jockstraps is to finally add that chat feature!

As for me... some of the early members know what's going on as I've mentioned it before but the condensed version is:

I got diagnosed with colon cancer back in November of 2019. They also discovered a few small spots on my liver. I spent much of 2020 going through chemo with a liver surgery at the end of last April.

My cancer responded very well to the chemo and basically disappeared and we all thought I'd be able to avoid colon surgery. But after a number of more tests the doctors decided there were still some live cells and surgery was needed. So here we are.

I'll be having colon surgery and a colostomy installed. Once things have healed (apparently 3 to 12 months), I'll be having a second surgery to reverse the colostomy.

I feel pretty ok about it as I have one of the best colon surgeons in Canada doing the surgery and I really like him. Even better, I just found out that unlike my surgery last year, they are allowing one visitor in the hospital so I'll be able to see Adrian.

Cheers and see you on the other side,

John.

Take care John and all the best for your operation and speedy recovery. I had the same surgery in 2016, unfortunately mine's not reversible but I've had no trouble living with it.All the best to you and Adrain and thank you for all the hard work you've put into the site .

Hi all, John/Jockstrapguy has got through his surgery. It was a challenging procedure that took from 8am to 4.45 pm but the surgeon thinks they did a good job. Due to COVID restrictions, I am allowed just one visit (this afternoon). He's had a bed bath today and should be up in a chair when I get there. On his behalf, thank you for all your good wishes. He should be home in about a week.

That is great news. Please let him know we're all glad to know the procedure went so well and he came through like a champ! Know it will be a slow recovery, but he has a lot of support.

Of course we all want to know - is he flashing the docs and nurses some prime jockstraps :) A little humor is always a good thing!
