Jockstrap Sizing Descriptions

When purchasing jeans, we get the options of skinny, slim, straight, and relaxed fits. Why don't jockstrap and underwear manufacturers adopt the same or similar sizing structures? For instance, I like some of the stylings of Addicted and ES; when I tried them, the waistband fit well, but the legstraps felt like I was going to have my legs amputated after an hour. Jack Adams has a generous leg-strap. Pump! is on the slim side. C-IN2 is all over the board as I wear a L in some styles, and XL in others. Anyone else have these issues?

I completely understand where you're coming from. As the guy who writes descriptions for the products on Jockstrap Central, I usually refer to the pouch as slim, compact or generous and also mention the stretch of the pouch but I rarely comment on the leg straps, unless they're ultra-wide and perhaps have some butt lifting qualities. I will certainly start describing the leg straps better so that, combined with our detailed photography will hopefully help guys make a more informed purchasing decision.

With straps, there's actually two factors to consider:, the actual length of the strap and also the amount of stretch of the elastic. Not all elastic is the same. For example, our Raw Studio brand uses a very relaxed elastic for the leg straps, it's amazing how much stretch they have. They're not going to give you much support but they make up for it in comfort.

As for Addicted, I mentioned somewhere else on the site how disappointed we were with sizing and quality. We had so many requests to bring it in, not to mention it was so popular and all the guys seemed to be wearing it so we ordered it blindly without actually seeing it (something we never do, we always request samples first with a new brand). We brought in loads of styles of their Addicted Fetish collection at once and when we finally got it in our hands, found the quality of the fabrics, stitching and sizing was terrible. And yes, the leg straps were cut too short. We ended up putting it on heavy clearance.

I'm not sure if you're suggesting or hoping for a brand to come out with multiple strap lengths for each product but as I responded to another guy on here who wished for each jock to come with multiple pouch sizes - it isn't going to happen - at least not for small to mid-size designers like Addicted, PUMP!, Nasty Pig and Cellblock 13 - it simply costs to much to manufacturer. As a small retailer, we simply don't have the shelf space to stock a product in four to five waist sizes, possible three pouch sizes and three leg strap lengths. Perhaps big conglomerate brands like Fruit of the Loom or Calvin Klein could do it.

Just my thoughts!

Thanks for the thoughts! I bought my first Pump! jockstraps several years ago from Jockstrap Central and enjoy them.

Being in manufacturing, I understand SKU proliferation and small guys can't manage the vast differences as guys are built differently, but a lot of the smaller guys are niche audiences, so maybe just a little more detail for fit would be nice. Some of us aren't blessed in needing a larger pouch, but have been making sure to do squats so there's a bit more junk in the trunk.

I often give advice to guys on the various sub-Reddits and one of my first questions is what is their build so I can steer them to brands that will fit their build. Although I have a fair collection, I'm nowhere near an expert, but I play one online. Too bad there's not a 'Nutrition Label' standard for clothing and it would include all the different aspects of the fit. Then again, that's my utopia, but I do try to recommend comfortable fits for guys as pricing ranges greatly and one can spend a small fortune doing trial and error.

This site is awesome, and I hope the community grows!!

One last word: I'm not saying I can't do better but I do believe we have the more elaborate descriptions than most other online stores. Most of the brands we carry have the worst descriptions, if any on their own websites. I don't get any help from them at all. I have to take each garment and touch it, stretch it and measure it - not to mention come up with some (hopefully) fun and sexy ways to promote the products.

The sad thing is, most customers don't bother reading. They look at the pretty pictures, go "I'm a medium in a Calvin Klein" and then just grab a medium and off they go.

As for the community growing - I'm very happy with it so far. We're gaining around 50 new members a week. With a site like this, only a handful of them will end up being active members but we're not doing bad for a website that only launched January 1st. Getting close to 400 members now.

I’m an ideas-guy without any significant experience in marketing, so take this for whatever it’s worth. It seems almost everyone knows how a Bike (now Meyer) jock fits. I know you must be outrageously busy, but what if you created a size comparison chart? Perhaps make Bike/Meyer the “gold standard.” You could list each size of each brand in rows and have columns like size (s, m, l, xl, xxl), manufacturer’s waist size (38-40), waistband unstretched, waistband stretched, leg straps unstretched, leg straps stretched, and pouch depth stretched and unstretched. Nobody is going to know what their favorite jock’s butt straps usually measure, BUT they know what their favorite brand of jock is, and this gives them a realistic comparison. I’m a stocky, dad-bod kinda guy, and I fit all around great in a Meyer XL. I’d really love to try some of the brands with cool color ranges, but the whole stated size tends to scare me off. If I had an objective comparison chart, I’d have tons more confidence in trying new other brands. Just a thought. BTW, if you can recommend some colorful mostly cotton brands with sizes similar to a Meyer XL, I’ll buy some now!

I have no ass so straps near butt are loose but if wore a small my ball and nut sack would have been oxygen deprived. Ugh. This was on bike 10 Still gonna wear them

I appreciate the talking about sizing, pouch size and leg straps. I totally concur. What really disappoints me is that no XXXL size are offered. That's a form of discrimination. Very few companies have XXXL. What a shame. Some companies don't even have anything above L size. Why is it the companies think we're all skinny as tooth picks?

My first question is... What is your actual waist size? From brand to brand, sizing differs. With our own JC Athletic jockstraps (the only ones we produce ourselves), we go up to a XXL which should fit someone with a 44 to 48 inch waist. While Cellblock 13's XXL fits someone with a 37 to 38 inch waist. It depends on how long the waistband elastic is cut and also on how stretchy the elastic is. The worst thing anyone can do while shopping online for jockstraps and underwear is go "I wear a medium in a Calvin Klein boxerbrief so therefore I wear medium in every other brand. We offer size spreads for each brand to help guys choose the right size - but so many guys completely ignore that.

As to the second part of your comment. I feel for you. I really do. But coming from someone that's been in this industry for 17 years, I understand the situation from a manufacturing point of view. Most of the brands we carry at Jockstrap Central are small gay owned businesses. When creating new styles of jockstraps and underwear, most factories will make you order in minimum quantities per style, per color and per size. That's one of the main reasons most designers only create small, medium, large, xlarge. If you really want to satisfy everyone, you'd need to not only create those mentioned sizes but also Xsmall, along with XXlarge and XXXlarge.

So, if the manufacturer wants you to order 100 pieces per style, per color, per size, we're talking a HUGE outlay of money to create just one jockstrap in a few colors. Not to mention, the Xsmall, XXlarge and XXXlarge sizes will sit on the shelves as there just isn't the demand for those sizes. Stocking all those sizes is another issue.

It sucks, but it is a reality.

Of course, it's not just the jockstrap/underwear industry that's at fault but clothing in general, airline seats, furniture manufacturing, amusement park rides - are just a few I can think of. As someone who lives with being a larger guy, I'm sure you can think of many more.

The good news is that are some brands/stores out there that are now catering to the big guys out there. Just did a quick search for "underwear for large guys" and the first result was https://largeladclothing.com/collections/underwear/ They don't carry jockstraps but they do make underwear up to 8XL (fits 65 to 68 inches).

I also just found https://www.bearskn.com/en-ca/collections/jock/jock which produces their own fashion jocks up to 6XL (unfortunately, they're a bit on the expensive size but it my guess is that they're not being mass manufactured in China like most things are these days - perhaps they're being made locally or even custom made.

I'm sure there's more!

I'd also like the mention that we had begged a few of our brands for years to at least go up to a XXL and eventually two of them listened. Nasty Pig and Cellblock 13 eventually started carrying XXL in some of their jocks/underwear a few years ago.

My waist size is 44". Maybe it would help if the website on the side bar gave waist sizing choices rather than just XL or XXL. I've never seen any XXL that fits me, so if some of your product does, then it would help by showing waist sizing on the side menu. The minute I see XXL or less, then I don't waste my time checking for exceptions.

Not sure if you're referring to the side menu that appears on every Jockstrap Central webpage but I don't think sizing information would work there. That's for categories of jocks and listing the brands we carry. Maybe you're referring to the description area of each product page (the part right of the photos). Putting a full size chart there would make the page VERY long. As it is, the size spread for each jock is quickly available when you click the size selection dropdown box on any product page.

We are working on a new website that will have a search function and you'll be able to search on things like sizing and waist sizes among many other things. Hopefully that will help in your search for a jock that works for you. It will also have a better menu system and lots more. I'm planning to have a customer put in their waist size and all the jocks and gear that should fit that waist size appear - like what happens now when you click a category or brand from the left column menu.

The good news is: within a brand, the size spread doesn't change. So if an XXL in any JC Athletic Jockstrap fits you then XXL in all JC Athletic Jockstraps will fit you. When you click on any category or brand from the left menu you'll be taken to a thumbnail page showing all we have available for that category or brand. You'll also see color code size blocks indicating what sizes we currently have available for each style.

Trust me, I'm hearing what you're saying. We've been in business for 17 years and despite that, we're still learning and improving our business and customer service. That will never stop.

In the mean time, I can tell you that as of right now we have a few brands that will cover a 44 inch waist.

XXL in Meyer jockstraps should fit a 44 to 46 inch waist.

XXL in our own JC Athletic Jockstraps should fit a 44 to 48 inch waist

XXL in our Bruto Jockstraps and Underwear should fit a 44 to 46 inch waist.

XXXL in our Omtex Jockstraps should fit a 43 to 47 inch waist

XXXL in our Wolf Supporters should also fit a 43 to 47 inch waist

And for something sexier, XL in our Raw Studio jocks and gear should fit a 40 to 44 inch waist as the elastic they use is very stretchy.

(Click the linked brand names above and that should take you to each brand and all the jocks we carry for each).

Cheers,

John.

Will a 35 waist be size medium?

Will a 35 waist be size medium?

As mentioned a few posts above, each brand has different sizing. It all depends on the length of the elastic each brand uses and also how stretch the elastic they use is.

If you go shopping, either at our store or any other online store with the idea that you are a "medium" no matter the brand then you're going to end up with the wrong size. On our store you have to go to each brand, click on a product and then click on the size selector dropdown box to see each size and what size waist it will work with.

For example:

In a JC Athletic Jockstrap size medium fits a 32 to 36 inch waist.

In a Meyer Jockstrap size medium fits a 32 to 34 inch waist.

So if you had a 35 inch waist, a medium should fit you in a JC Athletic Jockstrap but probably not as well with a Meyer Jockstrap.

Even worse: Although we don't carry SafeTGard anymore, we used to and they made things even more confusing as their size small was actually a youth size (fitting a size 20 to 26 inch waist). Their medium was more like most other jockstrap brand's small (fitting a 26 to 32 inch waist. )

Also regarding sizing: You had also mentioned above:

I have no ass so straps near butt are loose but if wore a small my ball and nut sack would have been oxygen deprived.

For most jockstrap brands, all jock sizes have the same size pouch. They normally don't get larger with the size of the jock. The size only refers to the waist size. I've seen lots of small guys with a 28 inch waist that have larger cocks than guys with a 38 inch waist. So putting a smaller pouch on a size small jock just doesn't make sense.

Thank you waist varies but info very helpful

Always Strapped

I believe jockstrap sizing usually runs on the "tight side." Although, based on my actual waist measurement, a size L should work for me for most U.S. jockstraps (European and Asian sizes tend to run even smaller), I always find size L too tight for comfort. So I always go for size XL. For European and Asian jockstraps, if they have "my size" at all (often they don't), they generally run more toward XXL. And no, I'm not bragging. The size refers to waist, not "endowment" -- which is not to say that I don't have a nice endowment, either. It's just not XXL. ;)

Love to see endowment. Not like anything will happen. I am straight acting and appearing. No labels here. 207 295 3783. I am sure could get hard seeing a straight dude. Preferable see a hard straight. Gay or bi o k lol

I absolutely LOVE this thread - this is almost exactly why I started my own collection in October of 2021!

My sizing method is very similar to what Jockstrap Central uses (I use color codes - yellow for upsize, green for standard size, blue for downsize) to give different fits. My favorite part of my business though is actually taking custom measurements for guys to get a true fit! I also make straps up to a size 50' waist!
