I lament the conversion away from jockstraps to compression shorts. I’m a jockstrap guy. I want to see athletes who are also jockstrap guys. Is that a gay thing?

Sorry, that was not meant to be belligerent. Just meant to say that we are all different and have different preferences. Gay, straight, bi, trans (and any other “category” of ) people all have have different likes. It is only part of who we are. The only thing that matters is that we are kind and try to do no harm.

My mother, a capital “C” Christian, thought/thinks that “queers” are “Satan incarnate”. If a doctor had saved 1,000 lives she would condemn him to the fires of Hell if he happened to have a partner of the same sex. So ... I am particularly sensitive to the view that being gay does not define a person. It is just part of who we are (I am), just as I have green/blue eyes, I’m 5’ 10” and I have a hairy chest.

My humble apologies if I have offended anyone.

My comment on it being manly was a reaction to the pressing of a gender neutral narrative that seems to put down masculinity. A jockstrap is perhaps the most masculine thing a guy can wear give the very specific function it serves. I also have found men who wear them as underwear tend to be more confident.

Agreed, please be assured I wasn’t trying to criticise you in any way. A jockstrap is a tremendously masculine thing. I think I was trying (clumsily) to debunk the myth that the only thing that defines gay men is an obsession with genitals ... not that being obsessed with genitals isn’t important!
