Baseball and wrestling (we weren't good enough, and there weren't enough of us to cut!)... looking back, I wish I'd played football for at least a year or two! Always swam in a speedo, but just for exercise, I never cared to race. Picked up ice hockey in college. I love the sports, but the uniforms and pads are the best bonus!

Baseball and wrestling (we weren't good enough, and there weren't enough of us to cut!)... looking back, I wish I'd played football for at least a year or two! There were also a few guys that put their underwear back on over their jocks because they wanted to keep the straps from showing. Again, I never understood that either. Too much sweat for me. I played football and our white pants couldn't be more transparent so I was used to showing straps.

One of my wrestling coaches explained a lot... why do jockstraps have no fabric in back, why are basketball and wrestling uniforms sleeveless with such big arm holes and such low collars, why were so many outdoor sport uniforms kind of mesh-like (look at 80s and older football and hockey jerseys, even some baseball jerseys...) it was all to allow more air to flow across your skin as you moved, and evaporate sweat. Cotton absorbs and holds water really well (look under a microscope, you'll find the fibers are shaped like hollow tubes!) which isn't comfortable, so you don't want to wear briefs or boxers. A jockstrap (and the short, loose shorts we wore then) didn't absorb that sweat.

(He was a chemistry teacher, so of course he'd go on about how evaporation consumes energy, which has a cooling effect, but that's when a lot of teammates would roll their eyes )

Absolutely my thoughts when I started wearing jockstraps. They keep you cooler and keep stuff from bouncing around. And comfortable

Just another thought added by a guy who's now in his late 80s. As we men get older our balls grow. One of mine is over 3 inches in length and proportionally wide. This is supposedly an attempt by the gonads to compensate for other glands producing testosterone. As a result, they can be in he way, walking and sitting--getting squashed between the legs. well, jockstraps keep those boys front and center and way from harm. Thongs work well in this effort as well. Both gather attention as I disrobe for some exercise at the gym.

I'm a child of that jockstrap tech! The 90's Bike cup jock left nothing to the imagination. You were cupped and everyone knew it. Visible straps were just a bonus.

I’ve still got many of those Bike cup jockstraps. They’re solid as they can fit the XL cups I use since the pouches expand a ton.
