Not for a son but when my nephews were in sports they came to me for jocks/cups for soccer, football , Track. Back when sporting goods stores had youth and boys jocks. Most stores offer compression shorts from youth-Teen. Its not until Teen-Adult you can get a standard jockstrap. However by young adult they wouldn't be caught dead in a jockstrap with no back covering their bare butt.
Iam a firm believer boys in 6th grade needs to learn about wearing a jock before7th grade gym classes.
Its the fault of kids these days aren't taught about why a jockstrap is needed over compression shorts.
I would recommend any dads on here go have the father son talk and get them wearing a jockstrap daily . Even if the booy is small the smallest jocks can be altered to fit. Wearing jock under sweat pants at home gets them used to it doing chores around the house.
I talked many dads into getting thier sons strapping for chores Biking, swimming, running, and hanging out with buddies.
I was lucky my father taught my brother and I the fact boys should always wear a jockstrap for sports. The 70's were a a good time short short gym shorts and jockstrap leg straps showing when when you were jogging. THE WEIGHT ROOM bench pressing and the whole class sweating. Showering was mandatory.

In Europe, briefs are much more popular than in the US and that’s why we don’t use that much jockstraps for sport purposes (except specific sports such as being a handball goalie for instance). Here we usually wear briefs or square cuts.

They may not have been popular to the general population but Omtex Sports out of India has been supplying sportsmen in India and Europe with supporters since 1982.
We also have a LOT of customers in Europe so there are Europeans wearing them. We have the most customers in Germany, France and Spain. I would also say the United Kingdom - but Brexit and all! And we've been supplying Europe with jock since 2005!

I was only pointing the fact that jockstraps are note very popular for sports here in France. I use to do lots of different sports and I haven’t seen much of them in locker rooms (unfortunately
).And you’re right that jocks are probably much more used as every day underwears or for dating.

But what's true is that in Europe, we are more briefs, squarecuts or even thong or jockstraps users than the traditional boxer brief that is very popular on your side of the ocean...
It's even more obvious when it comes to speedos or swim thongs : it's very common to be in speedos at any beach here in France or in Italy, Greece... I've heard that in the US, people could be offended on some beaches to see a man in briefs or thong. Here, it's normal
