    Jock historian

As I recall the BIKE 11 was a more recent jock than the University. The #11 had a nylon or polyester waistband. The waistband on the University was woven of the same material as the #10, but it had heavier thread count.

Higher thread count. Firmer pouch. More support.

The advertisement is a great find. Possibly from JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND DANCE magazine. By 1970 I think the BIKE #10, the # 59 swim jock, the 3" cup jock, and the plastic cup were about the only thing in production. Also the YM ( youth models) were still in production both regular...

I can't help you with that one. I looked at the oldest order form from my distributor (1969) and there was no reference to the #1089. Interesting that it was sold when Kendall sold the BIKE line. In the early 70's, BIKE started changes of both ownership and product lines. The rubber/cotton...

    Elementary school jockstraps?

Like most of you my introduction to jockstraps was 7th grade PE class. Nevertheless, in elementary schools where boys changed into gym clothes for PE class, it was not uncommon that jocks be required starting in 4th and 5th grade. I saw a few PE curriculum guides indicating jocks in 3rd...

    Open Showers

As I recall, the fancy Bradley tunnel shower set up included a wall dispenser where you grabbed soap solution . I don't remember the location of the base, but there is a story in another forum describing a tunnel shower on an Army base which was attached to 4 basic-training barracks. The...

    Open Showers

Sorry Timothy, I did not intend my posting to evoke intimate sexuality. Aside for the fact that the tunnel showers provided a rapid way to shower down large groups, the "undercarriage spray" was not that uncommon particularly at schools with nude swimming. Keep in mind that physical education...

    Open Showers

My daily lecture as a former PE teacher. In the era when PE programs were mandatory and provided participants a good sweaty workout, in larger schools shower facilities had to of adequate size to shower down perhaps 100 or more students in approximately 3 minutes allotted. The 5 nozzle pole...

    My dad found my jockstraps.

You should thank him for helping with your laundry, but it would probably be best if neither of you place jocks in a clothes dryer. Dryer heat damages the elastic and rubber (if included) components of the garment.

    Shorts with built-in jocks?

Perhaps this post would be more appropriate in the "History of the Jockstrap" thread, but gym shorts with sewn-in jocks were not uncommon physical education garments in the 60's and 70's. When I was teaching PE in the late 60's Yale was heavily promoting their supporter/short with a large...

What "triggered" your interest in jockstraps?

when he went to a Catholic All Male High School, the brothers made all the guys wear jock straps under their uniform pants, as well as when in sport. I had never heard of this occurring in a parochial school, but I am not completely surprised. I was aware of something similar at a Military...

Jockstraps required for Physical Education Class.....a forgotten era

Quite common for schools to provide freshly laundered PE clothes to each student for every class. Probably less common for schools to require sports participants to provide their own gear. Most schools had large commercial washing machines called "extractors" which they used to wash towels...

Jockstraps required for Physical Education Class.....a forgotten era

Thoughtful ideas indeed. Noting that the surplus school assets sale was in 1983 I am wondering if the school district was transitioning from school laundered PE uniforms to a (bring your own) policy. Several of the schools I sold to did so in the 1970's. Just a guess, but I wonder if the...

Jockstraps required for Physical Education Class.....a forgotten era

Quiz time again guys. The attached advertisement for "surplus" school property was posted by the South Bend, In. School District in 1983. What are your thoughts on the numbers. Why would the school have 200 swim trunks, 700 gym shorts along with 1600 athletic supporters offered for sale...

Jockstraps required for Physical Education Class.....a forgotten era

Looks like he military still uses 6" leg lifts as a physical training exercise. The BDU trousers and room design certainly looks modern compared to what I recall during basic training in the later 60's. I am sure the extra weight of combat boots makes the leg lifts even more enjoyable for...
