Bathing suits, gym shorts, basketball shorts were all very short by today’s standards. Still the case when I was in high school. During HS summers I taught sailing. My “uniform” for the camp was a jockstrap with a pair of my PE shorts, and a t-shirt. Years later a nephew was looking through photographs and came across one of me that must have been taken at that sailing camp. He thought I looked fairly ridiculous. I told him that if anyone had worn then the length shorts that guys wear now, they would have looked at you sideways.

Yup, summer camp "uniform" — tennis shorts, jock and t-shirt. Tennis shorts not only stayed in place better than gym shorts (especially if you were sailing), but if they were white (weren't they all?) it showed off the jock nicely especially after the shorts got a bit wet.

I remember those Jenzen short swim trunks I was a bit younger then you 10 when dad made me wear my brothers small youth jock for summertime at beach. I did feel like bigger boy at that time. I knew a high school kid who emailed me as a senior liked my chats about young boys in 7th grade should wear a jockstrap even in these days in 2000.
